About
What is the Food for Thought Program?
The Mission of the Food for Thought Program(formerly The Grande Prairie Schools Snack Program) is to relieve child hunger, to improve behavior and academic performance,
to provide nutrition education and to influence healthy lifestyle choices.
The Food for Thought Program is operated by the Education Foundation of GPCSD , with the support of community members, companies, and organizations. For the past 17 years the Snack Program has been able to offer those in need, breakfast items, fresh fruit and emergency lunches.
What is the Government of Alberta’s School Nutrition Program?
The Nutrition program will be offering all students a nutritious breakfast that adheres to the Alberta Nutrition Guidelines for Children and Youth. The meal will be offered to all students that wish to participate. This new program funding has allowed the Food for Thought Program to expand their serves to help all students in need in all 13 Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools!
How does the new Nutrition Program operate in your school?
Each morning a community fridge is stocked by school volunteers. The breakfast items are selected to meet the Alberta Nutrition Guidelines for children and youth. Students that are in need of breakfast are welcome to the community fridge before the start of class.
Where are the Donations for the Food for Thought Program allocated too?
The Government of Alberta Nutrition Program provides funding to operate our breakfast program each morning. The Food for Thought Program will continue to supplement this program to ensure that all students have access to an emergency lunch if needed.
The continued support from our community for the Food for Thought Program allows us to provide a service for all those in need in all our schools.
